HOSOKAWA LAUNCHES THE OPTISIZER FOR IN-PROCESS PARTICLE SIZING
Optisizer.jpg A new, dry powder, in- process particle sizing system available from Hosokawa Micron offers high performance accuracy within an easy to use unit that costs a fraction of other systems on the market.

The benefits of in-process sampling and analysing over manual sampling offer significant production advantages including shorter reaction times, maximising product throughput, optimisation of process stability, lower energy consumption and reduced instances of waste or reject product. Using established laser diffraction technology the Optisizer presents fast, reliable, reproducible and easy to interpret particle size distribution data. The ability to measure particle size distribution on line, real time, in any production process allows engineers to quickly assess the effects of any process change on the finished product.

However the cost of this has until now often been prohibitive but the Optisizer changes this and brings this valuable information gathering process within many operating budgets. Data gathered from the Optisizer can be automatically fed into any plant control system to allow for optimum process control. Available in three standard modules, XO01P for measuring particles conveyed in air from 0.5 to 220 microns, the XO02P covers the range 1.2 to 550 microns and the XO03P covers 2.5 to 1100 microns. All three compact and rugged products are designed to ISO 13330 and feature the same innovative design incorporating high stability lasers, the best optics and the highest specification custom designed detectors found in any in-process sizer today.

Xoptix Ltd of Malvern, Worcestershire, United Kingdom, Hosokawa Alpine AG and Hosokawa Micron Ltd have entered into an exclusive distributorship and further development arrangement for the Optisizer dry particle size analyser types XO01P/XO02P/XO03P in Europe, Russia, Middle East and the Arab Maghreb Union States.
This new and cost effective in-line particle size analyser allows Hosokawa Micron to expand its range of advanced control systems including Plexcontrol, intelligent monitoring and Intellimill applications to customers, particularly those in the food, chemical, minerals and metals markets.

According to the customers’ requirements and the specific situation of the production line, the system can be used for the documentation and archival storage of data (for instance d50, d90) or to set up a plant control system.

POWTECH 2010
news_powtech042010.jpg On their exhibition stand 7-360 in Hall 7 at the POWTECH (from 27 to 29 April 2010) in Nuremberg, the members of the Hosokawa Micron Group showed a wide range of technologies for powder and particle applications.

Hosokawa Alpine displayed:

- The ALPINE air jet sieve e200 LS, with which a new era of air jet sieving is initiated

- the Optisizer, an online particle analysis system

- 4 prototypes of the new picoline series for ultra small powder batches
picoliq – wet agitated ball mill
picojet – fluidised bed opposed jet mill
picoplex – universal impact mill
picomix – batch mixer

- A Nobilta 300 NOB powder processor for high-precision mixing and to generate compound materials out of ultrafine particles

- A dry agitated ball mill Pulvis PV-600 with a 200 TTC Turbo Twin classifier for the energy-efficient production of powders in the submicron range

- A 90 AHM horizontal wet agitated ball mill for the production of nanoparticles and for milling highly pure products

- A wear protected classifier mill ACM 40 EC SD “Single Drive” that need less space and power

- A multimill system (with the option of fitting either a fine impact mill, an opposed jet mill or a spiral jet mill) for processing highly active pharmaceutical substances in an isolator

- A Turboplex 316/6 multi-wheel classifier, with which a number of different classifying wheel designs will be demonstrated

- And last but not least, a DuraLine precision cutter, the ideal solution when it comes to processing big chunks of material

HOSOKAWA ALPINE MOURNS THE LOSS OF MASUO HOSOKAWA
Masuo_Hosokawa.jpg Masuo Hosokawa, chairman of the Hosokawa Micron Corporation, died on 31 March 2010 at the age of 85 in Osaka, Japan. With his passing, we have lost a charismatic personality whose passionate engagement and farsighted decisions were instrumental in paving the way for the success of the company group.

For over half a century, his engagement was dedicated to the Hosokawa Micron Corporation and to the global activities of the Hosokawa Group, an international supplier of process solutions for powder and particle technology, film blowing technology and confectionery and bakery technology. The group has production facilities in 5 countries around the world, has over 1500 employees and achieved a consolidated turnover in 2009 of 388 million USD. Masuo Hosokawa made the Hosokawa Group into what it is today, namely the foremost supplier on the sector of powder and particle technology.

After completing his studies at the University of Kyoto, he entered the family business in 1951 and succeeded his father, Eiichi Hosokawa – who founded the company in 1916, as president of the Hosokawa Micron Corporation in 1961. He stood at the helm of the Hosokawa Group from 1961 to 2008. Under his direction, Alpine Aktiengesellschaft, which was established in 1898 in Augsburg, became a member of the Hosokawa Group in 1987 under the name Hosokawa Alpine Aktiengesellschaft. In the past two decades, he created the basis for the further successful development of our company and of the entire group.

His solidarity and his special interest in Alpine were the reasons behind his frequent visits to Augsburg. Unforgotten are his visits on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Alpine in 1998 and the inauguration ceremony of the first construction stage of the new factory building in April 2008.

We will always honour and cherish his memory.

The dry agitating medial mill Alpine PULVIS for the production of sub-micron size particles
Pulvis_b.jpg The finer the particles to be produced, the higher the energy that is needed for the production. That is why we at Hosokawa develop technologies allowing our customers to produce finer and finer particles at reduced energy consumption. The PULVIS, a combination of a vertical agitated ball mill and a high performance air classifier represents a further milestone on our way.

FEATURES

- Compact design
- From Laboratory to production scale, with possibility to scale-up over complete range
- Energy efficient: With high grinding efficiency specific energy consumption is reduced by more than 80%. Finer particle sizes are possible compared to jet milling.
- Adjustable particle size: Fineness is determined by changing the classifier speed.
- Ultra fine particles: The compact unit reliably produces very fine products with particles sizes in the sub-micron range
- Easy access: Easy assembly, disassembly and cleaning are achieved with this design. ideal machine for frequent material changes.

APPLICATIONS

The PULVIS is the right choice for the ultra-fine grinding of hard, temperature un-sensitive materials. In the grinding process also additives can be used.
