Processing Powder Coatings, Thin-Film Powders

paints

To produce powder coatings, the chips must be ground to specifications and then classified. Great attention is paid to ensuring that the systems and components used are easy to operate, clean and maintain. With this objective in mind, we constantly refine our machines in order to meet the increasing demands in terms of powder coating quality.

The system concept shown here, comprising an air conditioning unit, Mikro ACM classifier mill, Mikro classifier CC, cyclone, ultrafines filter as well as screening machine and packing unit, is designed for either cyclone or classifier operation. The cyclone is mounted to pivot, meaning that both operating modes can be realised quickly and easily by simply adjusting the position of the product ducting. The screening and packing unit is in mobile design and is positioned underneath the cyclone or classifier as the case may be. The entire grinding and classifying system is in PSR 11 design. In the event of an explosion, the installed explosion barrier valves prevent the blast wave and flame front from entering the environment.

Throughput of mills:
150 – 3000 kg/h

Thin-film qualities
(acrylate)
d50  =  20 µm
d99  =  50 µm

Fines reduction to
10 – 15% < 10 µm using the
Mikro classifier CC

Coarse material yield: 80 – 95%
Throughput of mills:
150 – 1000 kg/h

The quoted outputs apply for:

Air temperature of < 2°C
Chip temperature of < 25°C
Grinding fineness values of

99% < 100 µm
80 - 92% < 63 µm
30 - 50% < 32 µm

Powder Besides the established ACM, Hosokawa Alpine has many other innovative system components geared to efficient powder coating production:

-  The Mikro Injekt reduces the additives requirement by up to
     50%.

-  The latest development stage of the MikroClassifier CC with
    excellent precision of cut and compact design results in optimum
   product yield and quality.

-  Optimised cyclone geometries plus the use of flap valves  reduces    product losses.

All these new developments are complemented by state-of-the-art process control technology which affords maximum reliability and operating comfort. The control cabinet technology with touch screen, measured value recording for production monitoring and data archiving, process visualisation and recipe management offer many effective possibilities of making the production of powder coatings more efficient: automatic control of the relevant parameters aimed at optimum system loading independent of the operator and product quality, throughput monitoring of additives and raw material aimed at preventing scrap batches, minimisation of external influences such as the outside temperature aimed at reducing the cooling water consumption and thus also the production costs.
