POWDER AND PARTICLE PROCESSING – Applications – Chemicals – Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate Processing

Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate (baking soda) Processing

Sodium hydrogen carbonate is used in the chemicals and pharmaceutical industries as a component in baking powder and pharmaceutical products, as a fire extinguishing agent and for neutralisation processes.

Sodium hydrogen carbonate is also often used in particle sizes ranging between d50 19 and 25 µm to neutralise the acidic components during flue gas desulphurisation.

The system shown below was designed and delivered for processing sodium hydrogen carbonate. The problem specification was as follows:
Feed size: < 2 mm
System throughput rate: approx. 200 kg/h
End-product fineness: d
50 19 – 25 µm

2 = Powderplex Classifier Mill APP
3 = Rinsing air
4 = Grinding air inlet
5 = Conveying fan
6 = Limestone supply
7 = Sample taking
8 = Control cabinet

A = Product feed sodium hydrogen carbonate
B = End product (to flue gas channel)

Scheme APP For this task we chose the Alpine Powderplex Classifier Mill 160 APP. This machine type is impressive because of the steep particle size distribution that can be achieved combined with a precise top-size limitation. Its modular design ensures good accessibility for cleaning and maintenance.

The performance range of the APP series depending on fineness and machine size between 200 kg/h and 2.5 t/h.
