Partnership of HOSOKAWA ALPINE and MECASIL TECHNOLOGIES
A PARTNERSHIP TO MEET THE CONCRETE SUSTAINABILITY CHALLENGE

Cement production is one of the leading producers of greenhouse gas in the world Since 1990 world consumption of concrete has doubled and is set to triple by 2020. How can the concrete industry retain emission levels at current levels let alone meet the challenge of returning to 1990 emission levels?
The answer will be based on more efficient cement substitution.
Mecasil Technology Group based in Australia and Hosokawa Alpine of Germany have joined forces to market Mecasil technologies for the development of more sustainable and efficient concrete built on the fine particle engineering of cementitious materials. Their mission is to reduce the reliance on cement as the primary binder for concrete at the same time as improving concrete performance.

The Mecasil Technology Group has expertise in fine particle engineering of concrete materials for the development of more efficient concrete binders. Hosokawa-Alpine is a world leader in the development, design and manufacture of equipment and processes for production of superfine mineral powders.

“Our experience with the processing of fly ash, an abundant waste material, has shown the potential for not only making concrete more sustainable but also more efficient – in its delivery and its performance” said Malcolm Boyd of the Mecasil Technology Group. “Our partnership with Hosokawa-Alpine provides us with a unique combination of experience and expertise to provide cost-effective solutions to the concrete industry”

HOSOKAWA ALPINE-Expo08
Three exhibitions in one week
Hosokawa Alpine used the opening of the newly built assembly hall as an opportunity, to organise the three day in-house exhibition ALPINE Expo08. From 22nd to 24th April over 800 customers came to the Peter-Dörfler-Straße in Augsburg. These guests arrived from all over Europe and some came from all over the world; for instance from Egypt, China, India, Indonesia, Jordan, Columbia, Korea, Sri Lanka, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam and the whole of Europe.

On the first day the company department Foil Blowing Plants presented themselves. The 23rd and 24th April was covered by the department Mechanical Process Engineering. On 23rd April, 336 customers of the two branches Pharma & Food and Chemistry visited the ALPINE Expo08. The branch Pharma presented milling, sifting and mixing plants for manufacturing powdery products for tablets, capsules, granulate, infusion or injection solutions. Hosokawa Alpine is the worldwide leading supplier in this field. The branch Chemistry showed machines and plants for preparation of chemical basic materials, fine chemicals and special chemicals as well as tuners, colours, pigments, cosmetics, wax, resin, adhesives, etc.

On Thursday, 24th April, the branch Minerals & Metals presented itself to the over 300 present guests. This branch supplies complete dry and wet preparation systems with most modern mills and sifters for finest preparation of minerals, which are used as fillers in plastic products and in the paint and paper industry. Supplied are also machines and plants for the ceramics industry, metal compounds and aluminium.

The spectrum of the ALPINE Expo08 included the fields crushing, drying, agglomerating, compacting, mixing and sifting. A special exhibition was dedicated to the manufacture of nano-materials and particle design. The branch Minerals & Metals presented, among others, an almost eight metre high wind sifter, which is capable, together with a ball mill, to produce nine tons of powder per hour with a grain size of 10 µm. The visitors also had the opportunity to inspect exhibits from other companies of the Hosokawa Micron group and talk to their experts. Present were: Allgaier Werke, Uhingen, Hosokawa Bepex GmbH, Leingarten, Hosokawa Micron B.V., Doetinchem/The Netherlands and Hosokawa Micron Powders GmbH, Cologne. Apart from numerous lectures from guest lecturers and Alpine employees, there was sufficient time for the guests for an extensive exchange of ideas with the Alpine process engineering technicians and engineers.
